Glioma Treatment Center Establishment in Tianjin Huanhu Hospital

 

On the afternoon of Jun 20, 2012 a Glioma Treatment Center was set up in Tianjin Huanhu Hospital (THH). Shen Changhong - Deputy Director of Tianjin Bureau of Public Health, Li Naiyan - Director of Tianjin Social Security Accounting Center and Hua Yong - Chief of Medical Service Division of Tianjin Bureau of Public Health attended the ceremony. Li Yue, General Manager of North China Branch of Merck Sharpe & Dohme, extended his congratulations on the establishment of Glioma Treatment Center. The host was Sun Zhiming, the Vice President of THH, and Shen Changhong and Li Naiyan unveiled the plaque for the Center.

 

Brain Glioma is the most common intracranial tumor, taking up a percent of 45% among all the diseases of intracranial tumor, which is seriously harmful to human health. Over the past 30 years, the incidence of primary malignant brain tumor rises each year, especially in the middle-aged and elderly people, and the annual rate of growth is about 1.2%. A survey of the literature available shows that the morbidity rate of Brain Glioma in China is 3-6 cases per 100,000, and the annual death toll is up to 30,000.

 

The Glioma Treatment Center of Tianjin Huanhu Hospital is composed of Departments of Neurosurgery, Radiotherapy, Medical imaging and Pathology and so on. According to the NCCN Guidelines for Treatment of Cancer by Site, the center will implement normalized and standardized comprehensive treatment and regular follow-up. The Neurosurgery surgeons receive patients and determine the operation plan, and then experts from different divisions will hold a consultation to decide concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Later, special follow-up will be done to monitor the effect and make guided treatment. The diagnosis, treatment and monitor in the whole course are seamless tandem and standardized. According to statistics, among all the glioma operations performed by hospitals in Tianjin each year, THH occupies about a percent of 50%, holding a leading position among all the hospitals in Tianjin

 

The Glioma Treatment Center in THH will provide more normative diagnosis and more effective treatment for glioma patients, and it will help to fight for long-term survival of those patients and improve the quality of patients' life. The Center will try to improve the effect of glioma treatment in China and provide better service for patients.
