TONG Xiaoguang

Tong Xiaoguang, Chief Physician, Graduate Student Supervisor in Tianjin Medical University, committee member of Neurosurgery Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association

He is skilled in combined treatment of surgery and intervention in cerebrovascular disease, and has operated a great number of neurosurgical cases in Tianjin, including all kinds of cerebral revascularizations, such as interventional embolization and craniotomy clipping surgery of intracranial aneurysm; intra- and extra-cranial stent implantation of ischemic cerebrovascular disease; intra- and extra-cranial vascular anastomosis and bypass surgery; radial artery - internal carotid artery bypass graft; superficial temporal artery - middle cerebral artery anastomosis; radial artery - middle cerebral artery anastomosis; occipital artery - posterior inferior cerebella artery anastomosis and so on. Besides, Dr. Tong has also performed operations on a variety of refractory huge intracranial aneurysms, moyamoya disease and cerebral blood flow reconstruction for complex ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

Dr. Tong graduated from Tianjin Medical University, and obtained PhD (Neurosurgery) in July 2000. His mentor is Professor Yang Shuyuan, a famous expert in neurosurgery in China. From October 2003 to October 2005, he studied anatomy neurosurgery at the University of Florida under the guidance of the world leading neurosurgical specialist Albert Rhoton Jr. Since 2005, he has been to the U.S. and France to participate in international conferences and short-term trainings in neuro-intervention for many times.

He is currently engaging in interventional and surgical treatment of cerebrovascular disease; the microsurgical treatment of skull base tumors, particularly in skull base meningeomas, extra- and intra- cranial communicating tumors.

With rich experience and proficient techniques, Dr. Tong is able to perform craniotomy clipping surgery and interventional embolization of intracranial aneurysm on his own and combines intervention with neurosurgery for selecting the best surgical approach. In particular, he specializes in the treatment of intracranial giant aneurysms and posterior circulation aneurysms. In addition, he is able to operate various intra- and extra-cranial stent implantations of ischemic cerebrovascular disease and internal carotid endarterectomy, especially in reconstruction of blood flow in complex cerebrovascular disease.

Over the past few years he has set up the Micro-neuroanatomy Laboratory in Tianjin Huanhu Hospital, and has trained many young neurosurgeons and graduate and doctoral students.
